We will be able to visit our "Grandfriends" four times this year! We entertain them with student-made skits, cards, cookies, and read and play games with them! Feel free to be a chaperone and come join us!
Our Final Visit with our Grandfriends and Tour of the Springs Preserve was Sweet and Informative!
THANK YOU, Chaperones! Mrs. Chinn Mr. Carson Mr. Vivas Mrs. Hayes
We were able to say our final goodbyes and give a summer farewell to our Grandfriends! We sang songs all about our beautiful Earth! Each business gave a brief business report and handed out their business product gifts to them! Then we toured the Sustainability Gallery, and Water Works, and played a little bit at the playground (before the rain came!) at the Springs Preserve!
Please take a moment to view our slideshow below! It depicts all of our wonderful songs, like, "You and Me and Ecology!" and "Earth Day Chant", to all the informative presentations from the entrepreneurs to all that we learned about conservation and water management at the Springs Preserve.

Our THIRD Grandfriend Visit was SUGARY SWEET!
We visited our Grandfriends for Valentine's Day and we toured the Blind Center of Nevada!
We passed out our Valentine cards and decorations and our now famous, school-made sugar cookies! All enjoyed!
We were able to show friendship and caring to our Grandfriends while we played Valentine Bingo.
We learned so much about "e-waste" and responsible recycling at the Blind Center.
**Did you know--they offer pick-up or you can drop off your items??
**Did you know--after sorting all the items, there are three options for the donations: sell on e-Bay, refurbish or recycle??
**Did you know--they process about 5,000-20,0000 items per month??
THANK YOU all for your e-waste donations, they were very much appreciated!
If you would like further information about this great cause, please contact: Theresa Davis Blind Center of Nevada Member Services Manager 702.624.5686 [email protected]
**THANK YOU, Chaperones!! **
Mrs. Thomas Mr. Vivas Mrs. VanEngen Mr. Carson Mrs. Morning Check out our slide show below! THANK YOU, Mrs. Thomas, for all the fantastic moments caught on film!
Our holiday visit with our Grandfriends and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission was just fantastic!
Our Grandfriends enjoyed their "sewn" stockings, holiday cards, and presents! Of course, they really enjoyed our holiday skits and even joined in with us for the holiday carols!
Our school-made sugar cookies were a BIG hit with the mission workers and the homeless! They also enjoyed a bottle of water too!
We learned all about the programs and much needed daily living supplies like meals and shelter that the mission provides to our valley's homeless!
If you would like to know how your family can get further involved to perhaps volunteer on a Saturday or during the summer, please contact Jan Tufte (our tour guide) at (702) 382-3246 or [email protected]
THANK YOU TJ Harmon's family for the case of water!

Our FIRST Grandfriend Visit and SA Recycling Tour was a HUGE SUCCESS!
What a wonderful day learning all about the recycling process at our partners, SA Recycling and with General Manager Saul! We were able to see not one but TWO school buses get prepared to be shredded by an excavator (they were crushed and ripped apart!) and we had a great tour using our magnets to discover what metals are non-ferrous, and we observed how aluminum cans are crushed and banded into a 1,200 pound bale! We received a hard hat, safety goggles, a safety vest, and a very cool telescoping magnet, all gifts from Saul and SA Recycling! We were also able to bring all of our recyclables from the Nate Mack Recycling company and we earned $205 for our school! THANK YOU!!
And....General Manager Saul Haro Jr. with SA Recycling, donated a $1,000 check to our recycling program, the Nate Mack Recycling Company!! Oh boy!!
We cannot THANK our partners enough for this generous donation!
We continued on our community service day with our first visit to our Grandfriends at Brookdale of Las Vegas! We entertained them (we hope!) with student-made cards and decorations, scary stories, sang Halloween songs, and recited a class acrostic poem. Of course, we also served them our delicious school-made Halloween cupcakes!
Our NEXT visit will be for the holidays in December! Stay tuned!
For now....check out our slide show below!
THANK YOU Chaperones!! Mr. Vivas Ms. Lopez Mrs. Cango Mrs. VanEngen Mr. Giunta
