~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our "Overton or Bust!" Trip Was NOT a Bust!
We learned about the first Mormons to settle the area at the Old Mormon Fort and the history behind it, with Helen J, Stewart being dubbed "The First Lady of Las Vegas", then off to the Techatticup Mine in Eldorado Canyon, which was at one time Nevada's richest producing gold and silver mine!
At the The Lost City Museum in Overton, Nevada we completed a scavenger hunt and learned a great many things about the lifestyles and challenges of the early southern tribes of Nevada. We finished our amazing and informative day at the Valley of Fire Visitor's Center, learning all that we could about the beautiful valley with its red-colored sand. We completed our day with a hike to Mouse's Tank and enjoyed climbing in nature's playground!
Please check out our full slide show below that captures some of the great moments of our trip!
THANK YOU Chaperones!! We hope we did not wear you out!
Students learned during the first semester, all about learning styles and Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. They discovered that these styles are simply different approaches or ways of learning, they are different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability.
By understanding how we learn and how we think (metacognition) our GATE'rs realized that they will raise their achievement in school and be more successful in life! They discovered how they best learn and with which modality.
Now, the Wranglers and the Broncos are utilizing their learning style research with our First Nevadan projects. Their presentations are most entertaining and showcase their strengths as they choose the learning style that reflects their way of thinking!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Pony Express Riders Meet a REAL Pony Express (Reride) Rider
Guest speaker Walking Tall Louis Hall visited our Broncos and Wranglers to tell stories, legends, and facts about the United States Pony Express. Then he shared all about the Pony Express Reride that happens every year to reinact the ride across eight states!
It was so informative, fascinating, and certainly brought to life that very specific and interesting period in Nevada history for us!
Thank you Walking Tall Louis Hall for sharing your passion and experiences with us!
